In a world of remote work and learning, artificial intelligence, and all that jazz, have you ever paused to think about just how far we’ve come? Our world today is pretty science-fictiony, but back when we were kids, things were super different. Dive into the childhood memories of our whole generation to see what we’re talking about. Which of these 90s kids memories do you relate to the most?

1. 256 kbps internet speed

Before we started living in a world of superfast fibre-optic WiFi and 4G mobile data, super slow broadband internet was the norm! Remember when basic speed was 256 kbps and you would have to wait for several minutes for videos to load? Yeah, once upon a time, we were actually patient.

2. Tazos, Beyblade, and WWE Cards

We would excitedly collect and trade our favourite tazos and WWE cards. And remember secret Beyblade battles in the school bus?

3. Landline phones

90s kids’ memories are sharp. Why? Before the age of mobile phones and speed dial, we would actually have to sit with the landline and dial a number. We bet you still remember your best friend’s home phone number!

4. Comics like Champak, Amar Chitra Katha, Tinkle, and Tintin

We grew up in the age of comics with the most beautiful art and entertaining stories. With comics like these, we could get lost in a happy world of folk tales, mythology, and so much more.

5. And computer games like Mario, Dave, and Contra

Growing up, computer games were a treat. They were also super fun. Every 90s kid will remember playing games like Dave, Contra, and of course, the unforgettable Super Mario Bros. Which one was your favourite?

6. Bioscope

Today we have multiplex cinema halls, but once upon a time in a land far away, 90s kids would get their entertainment with bioscopes! You may remember this as the picture box. Whenever the picture box came outside our houses, we would love to run out and push past each other to see the magical shows inside the box.

7. Reel camera

In the age of mobile phone cameras, it’s easy to take hundreds of selfies to find the best one to post on Instagram. But back when we had the reel camera with only 20 photos per reel, every picture was taken carefully and cherished. It’s those photos that stay forever in 90s kids’ memories.

8. Getting return gifts at birthday parties

Every birthday party was a chance to get a gift! Today, presents go one way. But back in the day, return gifts were a typical part of every birthday party. How many Rubik’s cubes, books, and pencil boxes do you remember collecting?

9. Sending postcards that never got delivered

Sending a postcard is a fond and funny 90s childhood memory. For some reason, all schools would teach kids how to write and post a postcard. We loved the class trip to the post office, but everyone knew the cards would never actually get delivered.

10. Black school shoes and white PT shoes

This is an unforgettable 90s childhood memory. As a kid in the 90s, you almost certainly went to school with these black shoes for regular wear and white shoes for PT!

11. Cassette tapes

Before streaming, USB, and even CDs, we had to physically keep all our favourite music on cassette tapes. And we were totally pros at rewinding the magnetic ribbon that would always come undone. All we needed was a pencil. Remember?

 12. Maruti 800

Cars will come and go, but the Maruti 800 will remain an unforgettable legend. This small family car was the first car most of us ever sat in. Somehow, the whole family would pile into the car, squeezing into every inch of space or sitting on each other’s lap. It brought us closer together. Literally.

13. Shows like Dekh Bhai Dekh, Son Pari, and Shaka Laka Boom Boom

These generation-defining Indian shows framed our entire childhood. How often have you dreamed about hanging out with the crazy Diwan family, prayed Son Pari would grant your wishes or hoped that somehow, like Sonu, you would get a magic pencil of your own?

14. Iconic Cartoons like…

Tom and Jerry! Johnny Bravo! Powerpuff Girls! Pokemon! This topic deserves a whole post of its own. So many amazing characters live on fondly in 90s childhood memories. Unlike generations today, we grew up with super fun but quality cartoon characters.

15. Actually sitting through advertisements on TV

And while we’re still on the topic of TV, remember when commercials were actually a thing? In the days of Netflix and chill, sitting through an ad break has become ancient history. But us 90s kids remember what it was like to wait through looong ads, or, to run and grab your favourite snack in the break.

Ad breaks may be out of fashion but snack breaks remain forever. And if you’re missing the good old days, we’ve got you covered. Check out GODESi's sweet and spicy collection of traditional Indian candies for the full flavour of your 90s childhood. Get snacking!
