When we were kids, we couldn’t wait to grow up. Now that we’re all grown up, we wonder why! Adulting has its perks, but then summer comes and the kids in your family or neighbourhood get excited because two months of HOLIDAAAYSSSSSSS are here!!!
When you see those happy kids, you miss your own amazing summer memories. Because us 90s kids had so much fun. Remember?
1. Waiting impatiently for the last day of school to end…
Because the holidays are about to start! On the last day before the summer break, we would keep staring at the clock waiting for class to end. And in the last period, when the bell finally rang and it was time to go home, we would jump up and run home because the summer holidays are here at last!
2. Our annual family vacations
One of our best summer vacation memories was always the family holiday. Every summer, we would go with our parents to new places in the country, but usually to the nearest hill station. It was a part of summer for which we just couldn’t wait.
3. Those amazing camping and school trips
Family vacations were great, but you know what was better? That’s right! School trips and camping trips with our friends. We made unforgettable summer memories: the bus rides, trekking, and all kinds of adventure activities.
4. Visiting our grandparents
Nobody loves us like our grandparents. Our best summer memories were made at our grandparents’ house, playing with them and getting pampered with stories, treats, and the yummiest food.
5. Gola, kulfi, and ice cream
Summer brought with it our favourite iced treats. Whether it was the chilled gola with colourful syrups, classic kulfi, or modern ice cream, we just couldn’t have enough.

6. Playing for hours with friends
In the summer holidays, we went by this code: all day, license to play. We would spend hours and hours playing indoors and outdoors with our friends. We had endless games to entertain us. In those days, boredom wasn’t a concept.
7. Going swimming
One of our best summer memories was swimming in cold water in the blistering hot summer. We couldn’t wait to cool off in the swimming pool, or for those of us adventurous enough, jump into the nearest river or lake.
8. Joining hobby classes
Summer holidays were a time for full fun, including exploring our hobbies. We had so many dance, art, music and sports classes to choose from that our parents would happily send us to. Maybe the real reason our parents were so eager to send us was that they needed some peace and quiet, too!
9. Or just lazing around the house
As a kid, “productivity” was not a concept. We were totally at ease just chilling. We could laze around the house guilt-free, watching unlimited TV or curling up with our favourite books and comics. Those were the days we knew how to live.
10. And postponing holiday homework for the last two days
Us 90s kids learned our “procrastinate and hustle” work culture at a very early age. Holiday homework was the worst. We didn’t touch it throughout our two months of break until the last two days came around and we got scolded by our parents. Hey, in our defense, the summer break was for making summer memories, not doing homework!
11. Grand finale: Eating Mangoes
No post about summer memories will ever be complete without a mention of mangoes. Sweet and juicy, mangoes are the king of fruits, and our hearts. Every evening after dinner we would sit with our whole family to gobble mango after mango.
